The only blue off my back porch lives above the tree line. A sun-washed robin’s egg hue appearing darker through my polarized sunglasses.
Blue paired with sky means fair weather. Good times. Blue solo leads a conflicted Jekyll & Hyde life.
Blue represents the depressed and brokenhearted of Country & Western fame. See Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue, and, of course, LeAnn Rimes straight-for-the-jugular classic, Blue.
If blue were a name tag it would read Lonely & Sad & Not Having a Good Day. Or Life.
Blue speaks to the dark night of the soul.
But blue also calms those dark nights.
Studies show blue disarms anxiety. Calms the nerves. Communicates confidence.
The Bible employs blue for royalty and divinity. The book of Exodus stakes the largest blue claim. 35 times blue shows up in the account of God’s people escaping slavery.
Each Exodus instance revolves around worship. Either the tabernacle or table linens or priestly garments or the color of the pavement under God’s feet when Moses and 70+ leaders ate and drank and saw God.
Great anxiety and fear always accompanied people seeing God. Yet Exodus 24:11 says, “…God did not raise His hand against these leaders…”
The reality of that day is our reality today.
God will never raise His hand against us. Thanks to Jesus.
God’s Spirit comforts and encourages us. Thanks to Jesus.
God welcomes us into His presence today and forever. Thanks to Jesus.
Worship this Jesus today. Rest in His love for you today. Cherish His acceptance of you today.
Blue people could use more blue in their lives. Especially the divine kind.
