My youngest got engaged last weekend. To a lovely lady he’s known for years. Started out friends. Evolved into much more.
Engaged bears richness like royalty. Implies the relationship transcended to a holy level.
Not just passing through. Or biding time. Or trying out.
But bought in. Invested. Marriage-bound.
When you’re engaged in the conversation you lean in with elbows on table and chin in hands.
When you’re engaged in the movie you shush the others on the sofa so to hear the plot behind the words.
When you’re engaged in life you discern meaning and purpose in the minutiae and pithy for nothing lacks importance and no one lacks worth in Jesus’ world.
Jesus fills mundane circumstances with meaning. He gives poor people His power.
All of creation – all of life – exists for the glory of He who created it. For the praise of He who directs it.
For the benefit of all who receive it.
How would your day be different if you realized you’re not traveling solo?
If Jesus’ promise of presence supported your every step?
If His Spirit provided wisdom for every decision?
If His gift of do-overs covered every mistake?
Perhaps you’d be all elbows on table and chin in hands wondering and watching Jesus do His thing.
Perhaps you’d be engaged.
