My grandson transported our home into his make-believe world the past few days.
Scaled to his throne at the top of the backyard fence where he could survey his kingdom.
Rescued Pooh bear by way of hook and ladder firetruck.
Played drums in the Summit worship band via oatmeal boxes and plastic food containers and drinking straws. (The straws keep the volume bearable.)
We all lean into make-believe on some level.
We fantasize about conversations in our heads.
We dream of new cars and new homes and how fulfilling they would be.
We wish for marriages and jobs where we were fully understood and fully appreciated.
We sense life could be better than it is. We think we know what better should look like.
Sometimes we’re close. Often times we’re clueless. Always we’re longing for a life of more or other.
One where joy runs free like a rain swollen creek spilling water over every bank every moment.
One day that life will be yours.
You’ll sit with Jesus surveying His Kingdom.
You’ll giggle at the beautiful blues and gorgeous greens He’s assembled in His new perfect world.
You’ll quiet at the languages and tribes He’s gathered from every corner of creation.
You’ll sing with a heart so full it can’t help but.
Until then let His Spirit carry you through the day.
Let Him give you eyes that color the here and now with the certainty of the hereafter.
Let Him open your heart to sing even in your sorrow.
For your sorrow lasts only a moment. But He lasts forever.
Believe that.
