The conversation yesterday bore the fruit of 10 years of friendship.
10 years seems like a long time. When you’re younger than 10. Or 20. Maybe even into your 30s.
10 year sprints become scary after 65. Or 75. Maybe 90. Only a partial 10 years left.
In 10 years time a child becomes a teen. A teen starts a new family. A family gains 3, 4, 5 children.
10 years allows relationships to mature. Surprise gifts to be given. Opportunities to unfold.
10 years sees life and death and life again. Hirings and firings and returning to that company that once put you at the curb.
If you looked back 10 years to catalogue the seeds the Father planted in your life… Who has blossomed? What unmapped paths did you take? What suffering unfolded like a horrible dream?
What hope came into being after starting slightly buried beneath a name or place?
You and I can’t see ahead. Only behind. Perhaps you should look back some today.
What joy-plants are growing…what joy-relationships are solid…because of God’s hand 10 years ago?
God the Father created time. For us to enjoy and explore and inhabit.
God the Son redeemed time by inhabiting it with us for a season.
God the Spirit walks with us through time. Helping us navigate. Helping us appreciate all God can do.
Especially in 10 years.
