I’m in a covetous relationship with John Deere.
My neighbor owns a green JD tractor complete with front-end loader. I wish it was mine.
I need it. Really. Just imagine what I could do if I had one. Push over trees. Dig up rogue cacti. Spread gravel. You know – fun stuff.
Alas, my wife claims I don’t have a legitimate need. Especially since my neighbor hires out to people like me. He and I spent Saturday installing a new culvert and building some walls out of large chunks of granite.
His tractor made easy work. We’d load a batch of mini-boulders into JD’s bucket. Then I’d stack them with the occasional help of the tractor pushing them into position.
I couldn’t have built the walls without the tractor. The tractor’s not designed to build the walls by itself.
Our work on earth runs the same way.
Jesus calls us to join with Him and His Spirit in building. Building businesses. Building ministries. Building families.
They don’t build themselves. Nor will Jesus simply build them out of thin air. He works through people like you.
He’s gifted you with leadership insights. He’s placed you in positions of authority. His Spirit empowers you to create legacies of people and place grounded in grace.
That’s what He does…when you invite Him to your work.
You can try to do it yourself. It won’t be eternally-lasting. It won’t be near as majestic. You’ll wear yourself out before you’re finished.
Or you can ask Him to help you. To guide you. To put the big rocks in place that makes for a great foundation. To give you an extra measure of energy that moves you forward.
Imagine how much more rewarding your work would be…
Imagine how much more fulfilling your life would be…
Knowing that your exhaustion was due to building something more than you could have built alone. Knowing you built something for – and with – the Master Builder.
(I still want a tractor.)
