My two boys and one daughter-in-law visited us last weekend. The joy of simply being together reigned throughout the 48 hours.
Ours was a time of laughing, catching up, conversations of concern, sharing of YouTube videos, discussions of church and work, praying over meals, and eating too much food. Including Cooper’s bar-b-que from Llano.
The boys decided to brave the still chilly water of Inks lake on skis. The boat broke down in the middle of the outing. We discovered oars are best used for waving for help. Friendly strangers towed us home.
Being together with those you love releases strong currents of emotions that often live unrecognized beneath the surface. I’ll give you they are sometimes harsh and in-your-face. But more often they are deep wells of contentment I had lost touch with.
It was difficult to turn everyone loose come Sunday. Being together is infinitely better than being apart. That’s how Jesus designed us.
July won’t come soon enough.
