The podcast guest we recorded today turned on theological lightbulbs every five minutes or so.
My favorite: “We’re Christians. We believe the virgin had a baby. If we believe that, certainly we can believe God’s able to do other things through us. No matter how impossible we might think them to be.”
The virgin had a baby.
My familiarity with many of the Church’s foundational truths has robbed my soul of their awe.
Sometime in my past I put them in the cabinet behind my desk. The one I occasionally open only to be surprised at what I find. Items I originally stored there because of their importance.
But life behind a closed door leads to neglect.
The virgin had a baby.
We know this to be impossible physiologically. So much so we would call a liar someone who declared it so of herself.
But we walk around with the Spirit of Jesus in us believe it to be true.
Jesus breathed His first breath as the offspring of a virgin and God the Creator. No human man involved in His conception.
The virgin had a baby. A miraculous start for a miraculous life.
What seemingly impossible climb or life-threatening swim stands before you?
What relational “no way in hell” needs reminding the virgin had a baby?
Restoring a marriage? Restoring a relationship with a co-worker? Restoring the parent-child or brother-brother bond?
Learning a new trade. Persevering through that last semester of college. Slogging through the breast cancer.
Whether mountainous or mundane, the virgin had a baby.
Where does that divine truth bring you hope today?
