God created man to work. Since Day 6 God designed man to care for creation. Make sure God’s stuff was managed God’s way.
At that stage work fulfilled. Satisfied. Both body and soul. “What I’m made for.” Totally.
Then we decided we needed a higher perch. A farther view. More self-governance and self-fulfillment and self-determination. Independence and calling the shots.
You know what I’m talking about.
Now work offers patches of fulfillment. Sprinkles of satisfaction. Sometimes a season.
But even more stretches of disappointment. Months of disillusionment. Struggles with bosses. Frustrations with co-workers. Miscommunication. Broken promotion promises. Poor fitting roles. Accountability with no authority.
You know what I’m talking about.
One day that will end. We will rest from our labor. The pain of work removed from the beauty of work. A new old you who enjoys a lower perch and living under a loving God.
Until then we rest in the God who created us to work but doesn’t make us work for love or acceptance or a place at His table.
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.” – Psalm 62.1
Labor we are designed for, and labor we do. Be sure and rest some today.
