I’m listening to Spanish música in my office. It’s filtering through the windows from a radio entertaining the workers outside.
I have no clue what the lyrics mean. My limited Spanish shuts down any song translation abilities.
All I know is the guys in my backyard love it. One of the guys is even dancing with an imaginary date. Thankfully the guy on the scaffolding is only humming.
Such is how people who don’t know Jesus must feel about those of us who do.
Hopefully they can see He’s important to me. How He keeps me from blowing away when some crazy northern howls in. How He shapes the way I treat people and circumstances.
How grace colors my life more than revenge or hatred or apathy. How His grace for me fills me with grace for others.
But I suspect they don’t fully understand it. If you don’t think you need a doctor you tend not to listen to doctors. If you think you know how to drive you tend to ignore driving instructions. (Just ask my wife.)
Jesus never forces His way in. He knocks. He waits. He hangs around. He perseveres but never pushes.
Most people I know who came to know Jesus later in life only did so when they felt life wasn’t going like they wanted it to. Some piece was missing. Some goal constantly out of reach.
They heard the music and longed to understand it. A friend translated for them. Explained the words of the song. Helped them discover how Jesus joy dances its way out into happy feet.
What about Jesus and His love for you brings you peace today? What Holy Spirit song is playing in your heart? Who needs to hear that from you?
