My wife says I overuse the above word. I’m offended by the accusation.
Yes, I’m prone to utilize the adjective in regard to the plethora of bugs that reappeared after last week’s rain: “The gnats on the porch are stunning tonight.”
Or the abundant light show accompanying the storm: “That double fork lightning strike was stunning.”
It fits equally well for abilities – “Golf was stunning. Shot an 81.” – and food – “The gruyere and fontina risotto? Stunning.” – and people – “Absolutely stunning. So articulate and poised.”
I almost included it on Instagram this morning regarding the stunning hill country weather.
Ok. Maybe she’s right. Which ouches. Especially when it’s about something I’m doing that I don’t realize I’m doing.
I suspect I’m not solo in that regard. When people double as mirrors – even when the mirror is wrapped in love – truth pokes the ego. Egos would rather go through life blindly full of self-love.
God’s Word pokes also. Shows us just how much we delude ourselves. Sometimes ignorantly. Other times purposefully. Revealing at every stunning turn just why we need Jesus.
Who really is stunning. Divinely so.
For now, I’ll guess I’ll shelve stunning. Or maybe just add an -ly? Stunningly? Ooooh. I like that.
