Do you understand?
It’s a simple question. Sometimes asked by a teacher seeking confirmation knowledge transferred well. Other times asked by a relation seeking confirmation their opinion was grasped.
One engages head and knowledge. The other goes for heart and feeling.
One requires not a relationship. The other implies there is one. Or should be.
Understanding builds bridges between lives. It sits on the bench holding hands. Walks through the dirt in the same sandals. Wears the sari even if no sari is required.
Understanding works best when it isn’t forced but rather pursued.
Understanding works best when I seek to understand you rather than be understood by you.
Understanding works best when explored with open hearts and open ears wearing grace filters. Putting best construction on words and emotions.
Understanding there’s always a reason for behaviors.
Understanding anger flows from pain and deposits on the closest person.
Understanding love covers over a multitude of sins.
Understanding grace is love lived out.
Understanding others becomes easier when you realize your Creator radically loves you. Thanks to Jesus.
Seek to understand those around you. Give understanding rather than demanding it.
