2-Minute Multiplier: Wet
My daughter and her family live in Phoenix. It’s early April and already they’ve reached the “wet is the only way” season. The only way to play outside is to be wet.
Squirt guns. Bowls of water with paintbrushes. Water on patios under a cover. Swimming pools and wading pools and pools to splash in.
Highs in the upper 90s and low 100s require cooling and the best way is water.
Up to 60% of your body is water. Water makes your world go round.
From oceans to clouds to tears to sweat to the foggy breath you used to wipe off your sunglasses. All water.
We drink it. Bathe in it. Play in it. Are it.
Not shocking that water plays prominently in the Christian story. Since, you know, He created water.
From worldwide water and Noah’s ark
…to walls of water and Israel’s Egyptian escape
…to tiny clouds of water and Elijah’s standoff with Jezebel
…to John baptizing Jesus with water and Jesus turning water into wine and using spit water to restore a man’s sight
…to 1000’s of people wondering what they must do to be saved and hearing “wash with water in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins.” (Acts 2.38)
Jesus plus water equals miracles and healing and forgiveness of sins. Jesus plus water equals salvation.
When did Jesus get you wet with baptism water? How old were you when He forgave your sins? When He offered you healing from a sickness that leads to death?
Water’s not how salvation happens. But when the water’s tied to God’s promises and full of God’s Word? Then you’re all wet.
Which is the only way to live.
